The cylinder block head is cast from an aluminium alloy, therefore be careful not to strip a thread in bores for spark plugs.
1. Warm up the engine to a normal working temperature.
2. Turn out candles.
3. Unhook from an ignition coil a high-voltage wire.
4. Completely open a throttle valve.
5. Screw in a bore for a candle of 1st cylinder a compression measuring instrument, densely tighten.
6. Ask to press the assistant a pedal of a throttle valve and to engage a starter (on carburettor and engines with an injector). The starter should be engaged two-three times for short time.
7. Define the indication of a manometre in the end of each inclusion of a starter and write down the maximum indication. Repeat procedure for each cylinder. Compare the maximum indication to the data resulted in Chapter 2 for the engine of corresponding model. Values of a compression in separate cylinders should not differ no more than on 0,7-0,85 atm.
8. If a compression below standard value fill in in the cylinder about 1 table spoon of oil for the engine and repeat measurements. If the compression has increased, it specifies in deterioration or breakage of piston rings, or the strengthened deterioration of walls of the cylinder. If pressure has not changed, the reason is the leaky adjunction of valves to saddles (rocker gear repair is required), or damage of a layer pad of a head of the cylinder block near to the cylinder. If low value of a compression in two next cylinders which does not change at oil addition the layer pad of a head of cylinders is damaged is observed. For this reason oil and a cooling fluid can get into a combustion chamber. In layer pad damage specifies also occurrence of traces of a cooling fluid on an oil-depth gauge.

Procedure of check differs nothing from described above, but has the features.
1. For diesel engines it is necessary to use the special measuring instrument of a compression calculated on ready more a high pressure.
2. It is necessary to remove tubes from all cylinders and spray jets with ring insertions.
3. Track, that the valve for release of air from a compression measuring instrument has been closed.
4. At installation of spray jets replace ring insertions.
