• Preliminary piston assemblies should be carefully cleared. Rings are necessary for removing from buckets.
• By means of the special adaptation remove rings from buckets, - try not to damage a wall of the last casually.
• Scratch out from the bottoms of buckets traces of coal adjournment. After removal of the basic layer of adjournment smooth out a surface manually a wire brush or a piece of a fine-grained emery paper.
• By means of the special adaptation clean flutes under installation of rings on buckets. It is alternatively possible to take advantage for this purpose of a fragment of an old piston ring, however be careful, - do not scratch a bottom and walls of a flute and do not cut fingers.
• Having removed the basic adjournment, wash out a connecting rod of assembly by solvent and carefully dry them, whenever possible with application of compressed air. Check up flotation ability of bores in rear walls of flutes under installation of piston rings, and also oil bores in the bottom heads of connecting rods.
• If walls of buckets and a mirror of cylinders are not damaged and excessively are not worn out, and the engine block was not pierced and not replaced, necessity for replacement of buckets also disappears. Do not forget, that replacement of piston rings is made without fail, without dependence from their condition.
• Attentively inspect each of buckets on presence of cracks in a skirt, round ledges under installation of piston fingers and around an arrangement of rings.
• Check up piston skirt thrust faces on presence of scratches, the bottom - on presence of through bores on edge. Presence of scratches on a skirt can be regarded as a sign of long overheats of the engine
• The pitting of buckets in the form of cavities speaks about hit in combustion chambers and-or a crankcase of the engine of a cooling fluid. Besides, take care, that the reason of internal escapes has been eliminated.
• Estimate size of a side clearance of landing of piston rings in the flutes for what enclose a new ring outside in the flute on the bucket and by a probe measure a remaining spacing. Repeat measurement in two-three points on flute perimetre. Watch to mixing a ring (the top differs from the second). If amount of clearance exceeds admissible value, buckets are subject to replacement.
• Check up connecting rods on presence of cracks and other mechanical damages. Temporarily remove covers of the bottom heads, take liners of old bearings, wipe beds in covers and heads and check up them on presence of agnails, burrs and roughnesses. Having finished check, enclose into place old liners, establish covers on the bottom heads of connecting rods and by hand tighten fastening bolts.
• By means of a micrometer or a calliper measure a thickness of bolts of fastening of the bottom heads of connecting rods in two points. Compare among themselves results of measurements. The difference more than in 0.102 mm testifies to failure of bolts and necessity of their replacement (in the complete set).
• On termination of check of connecting rods and connecting rod bolts plant on the places of a cover of the bottom heads and by hand tighten fixture.
